Pre-Retirement Services for Agencies
Federal Career Experts offers a wide variety of services for federal agencies that are looking to provide information about retirement and benefits to their employees. From in-depth seminars, to overviews of benefits, to individual employee counseling; from off-the-shelf offerings to custom designed classes – Federal Career Experts can do it all.
For those close to retirement
FCE offers a traditional Pre-Retirement Planning seminar. This seminar can come in one or two-day versions and is our best seller. A one-day seminar covers all of the federal benefits, i.e.,
- Retirement eligibility
- Retirement computations
- Survivor benefits
- Federal insurance (FEHB, FEGLI, FLTCIP, FEDVIP, FSAs)
- Taxation of federal retirement, Social Security and the Thrift Savings Plan
- Social Security
- Thrift Savings Plan
A two-day Pre-Retirement Planning seminar would cover all of the above areas in more depth and would include the following additional areas;
- Financial planning
- Estate planning
- Working after retirement
- Retirement living
For those in the middle of their career
FCE offers Mid-Career Retirement Planning seminars. (link to pages 15 and 16 of capa) These seminars can also be one or two-days long and will cover the same general areas as a Pre-Retirement Planning seminar. What differentiates these seminars is the way the material is presented and emphasized. An employee in the middle of their career still has time to improve their retirement prospects by making changes in their saving and investing habits. For example, in a Mid-Career Retirement Planning seminar, as opposed to a Pre-Retirement Planning seminar, areas such as Medicare and Survivor Benefits would have less emphasis and areas such as the TSP and Financial Planning would receive much greater emphasis.
For newer employees
FCE’s New Employee Retirement and Benefits seminar gives employees early in their career the information they need to chart out a successful course for financial security. (link to pages 12 and 13 of capa) These seminars, which come in ½-day or full-day versions, give an overview of all federal benefits in addition to federal retirement, Social Security and the TSP.
Retirement Overviews and Individual Counseling Sessions are an option for agencies that have widely dispersed employees and/or where having a large group of employees together for a longer seminar impacts the agencies mission. A group of employees would receive a roughly two-hour retirement overview and would be scheduled for individual counseling sessions with one of FCE’s retirement experts.
Benefits overviews are our newest offerings and are similar to our Retirement Overviews. They are designed for those who do not have a clear understanding of federal benefits. This lack of understanding is often exacerbated by the fact that (what with centralized HR functions) there are no benefits experts on site. A Benefits Overview session would consist of a short group presentation, followed by individual sessions.
Service after the seminar is provided by FCE. Our instructors share contact information and encourage participants to contact them if there are any questions, or if clarification is needed. A DOD employee said the following in an after class email to our instructor, “I am so fortunate to have someone like you who can clarify so easily”.
Speaker services are another offering. If retirement and benefits are to be a topic at an agency meeting or conference, FCE can provide experts to talk on virtually any topic relating to federal retirement and benefits.
